The Haddon's Carpet Anemone, also known as the Haddoni Carpet Anemone, Saddle Anemone or Saddleback Anemone is found in the shallow waters of the Indo Pacific. It resides in sandy substrate and can reach sizes of up to 3 feet. These anemones require a tank with high lighting and moderate water flow. The aquarium should have a variety of sandy and rocky locations as it prefers to move around in an attempt to find a preferential location. This particular species prefers to bury its foot into the substrate and will often attach itself to the bottom of the aquarium where it is buried for protection.
When first introducing this anemone into a tank it is recommended to first reduce the flow rate, dig out an area of substrate were you prefer it will reside, then gradually cover the column after it's settled in and buried its foot completely into the substrate. Afterwards, slowly increase the water flow to normal levels.
These anemones have short, blunt tentacles with a very potent sting (which can cause a severe reaction in humans), and are also extremely sticky to the touch - being difficult to remove without damaging them. In a home reef environment they can serve as host for most Clownfish but are not compatible with other fish or anemones and will devour them.
